Snowfall Disrupts Daily Life and Tourism in Northern Gorkha
The northern belt of Gorkha district has witnessed continuous snowfall since last night, affecting normal life and tourism activities in the region. According to residents, snowfall has been occurring across various areas of Chumnumbri Rural Municipality. Pasang Funjo Lama, a local of ward no. 7, said the snowfall began with light rain last night and has continued into today. “People are staying indoors, and even the yaks have been kept in sheds,” Lama shared.
Villages situated above 3,000 meters, including Nile, Chhule, Pangdun, Lar, Phurpe, Lamagaun, Burji, Jong, and Chhekam, are blanketed with snow. Similarly, Samagaun, Syala, and Lho villages are also covered under a thick layer of snow, making travel and outdoor activities difficult.
Meanwhile, the snowfall has also affected tourists and trekkers in the Manaslu region. Those heading toward Larke Pass have reportedly halted their journey midway due to the heavy snowfall and challenging trail conditions. Local authorities have advised residents and trekkers to exercise caution as temperatures continue to drop across the high-altitude settlements.
