SilkAir's new Boeing landing in Kathmandu today
KATHMANDU, Dec 1 :
SilkAir travelers in Kathmandu will have the chance to experience the airline´s new Boeing 737-800 aircraft on their next flight to Singapore.
The new aircraft, which SilkAir acquired this year, is scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu from Singapore´s Changi Airport on Monday. The airline has acquired eight Boeing 737-800 aircraft so far this year. The new aircraft has 162 seats -- 12 in Business and 150 in Economy class.
According to the airline, the new aircraft will fly on Singapore-Kathmandu-Singapore sector three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while the remaining three flights will be operated by its existing Airbus 320 aircraft. Starting April 015, the airline plans to deploy the new aircraft for all its Kathmandu flights.
SilkAir first began operations in Nepal in 2007. It currently operates six flights per week, except on Saturday, to Singapore.
Vivek Jain, manager of SilkAir for Nepal, said that the deployment of the Boeing 737-800 on Singapore-Kathmandu-Singapore route signifies the importance of Nepal in SilkAir´s network of 12 countries. “It is fantastic to see this commitment to the route with the rollout of the new aircraft. The fact that SilkAir will be operating this aircraft initially on its daylight services to Kathmandu also highlights its focus on the customer experience, in both the business and economy cabins,” he added.
According to the airline, SilkAir is the first to launch complimentary wireless in-flight entertainment, called SilkAir Studio, on the Kathmandu-Singapore route. "Passengers can stream up to 20 Hollywood and international movies, 26 TV features as well as 100 chart-topping music albums directly onto their personal laptops, tabs, smartphones, and other mobile devices at no additional cost," the airline said in a statement.
Besides, in-seat power supply helps passengers to charge their personal electronic devices such as laptops, mobiles, and other handheld devices. SilkAir´s wireless in-flight entertainment is also available on the existing retrofitted Airbus 320 aircrafts, the statement added.
"The Boeing 737-800 features the Boeing Sky Interior, which highlights new modern sculpted sidewalls and window reveals, LED lighting that enhances the sense of spaciousness, and larger pivoting overhead stowage bins," according to the statement.
