Share market ends on high hope

The investors are looking forward to the financial institutions’ unaudited reports that could kick start another round of share market rally. But it went down by 5 points this week (August 7-11).
The commercial banks’ balance sheets are showing quite an encouraging result in terms of profits that might attract investors in the hope of lucrative profit from Sunday. But the market last Sunday opened at 357.64 points and went down to 353.74 points to close by the end of the day’s trading. It continued its slide to 352.18 points on Monday. By Tuesday’s closing time the secondary market has already slid to 345.80 points. However, share market recovered to 351.99 points on the fourth trading day and crawled a little up to 352.65 points to close on Thursday.
However, the market witnessed 888,252 unit shares of 114 companies worth Rs 155.4 million being traded through 6,078 transactions in the five regular trading days witnessing 21.34 per cent increase in trading volume compared to a week ago’s. The sensitive index measuring performance of Class ‘A’ companies went down by 7.32 points to 81.54 points on the week’s trading. Among the total transactions, the trading of class ‘A’ companies consisted of 56.7 per cent amounting to Rs 58.9 million.
The float index that indicates the performance of the actual shares also declined by 0.24 points to 29.93 points. All of the subgroups ended up in the red zone in the week’s trading. The others subgroup headed the losers’ pack as Nepal Telecom lost Rs 14 per unit share in the trading. Among the financial intermediaries, development banks’ loss was the highest as the subgroup went down by 4.19 points followed by banks that lost 3.2 points. Finance companies and insurance companies also lost 2.51 points and 0.36 point, respectively. Hotels too lost 0.39 point in the week’s trading.
Th week was dominated by hydropower as Butwal Power Company topped the charts in terms of transaction amount with the transaction worth Rs 34.5 million. In terms of number of shares traded National Hydro topped by trading of 282,670 unit shares, while in Jyoti Bikas Bank topped terms of number of transactions.
