The Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) is set to observe World Investor Week 2026 (WIW 2026) from October 5 to 11, 2026 (Ashwin 19 to 25, 2083) with a range of investor education and awareness programs across the country.
World Investor Week is an annual global campaign initiated by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) to promote investor education, protection, and awareness of opportunities and risks in the capital market. Nepal has been actively participating in the campaign since 2016 under the IOSCO initiative.
The theme of World Investor Week 2026 is “Invest in Your Future. Protect It Today.” The campaign will focus on key areas including Investor Resilience, Digital Resilience, Digital Deception, Scam Alert, Basics of Investing, and Young Investors & Next Generation.
According to SEBON, WIW 2026 will be observed nationwide in coordination with the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE), CDS and Clearing Limited, securities companies, and other market-related institutions.
Various programs, including investor education sessions, training programs, awareness campaigns through newspapers and social media, and other public outreach activities, will be conducted during the week.
SEBON has encouraged investors and interested members of the public to participate in programs organized at locations convenient to them and make use of the investor education resources provided during the campaign.
The campaign aims to strengthen investor awareness, promote informed investment decisions and contribute to the development of a sound and resilient capital market.
On the occasion of World Investor Week 2026, SEBON has urged individuals entering or planning to enter the securities market to develop disciplined and informed investment habits.
The Board has advised investors to save regularly from an early stage and make investment decisions only after conducting adequate research and analysis. Investors are also encouraged to understand the products and risks associated with the securities market before committing their funds.
SEBON has particularly encouraged new investors to begin their participation through the primary market and mutual funds, while gradually developing their understanding of the secondary market.
Investors have also been advised to study a company's fundamental condition, financial performance, legal and regulatory environment, and other relevant information before investing in its securities.
SEBON has warned investors against making investment decisions solely on the basis of information, suggestions or promotional content circulated through social media platforms such as Facebook, TikTok and Instagrabased onm.
The Board has urged investors to independently verify information and exercise their own judgment before making investment decisions.
It has also cautioned investors against blindly following influencers, market rumors, or other individuals without conducting their own research.
Investors should be particularly cautious of advertisements or claims that promise guaranteed returns or profits, as such promises may lead to uninformed investment decisions.
Digital security has been highlighted as an important component of this year's World Investor Week campaign.
SEBON has advised investors to remain alert to deepfakes, voice cloning, fake identities and other AI-generated content that could be used to mislead investors.
Investors are encouraged to use two-factor authentication (2FA) wherever possible and to exercise caution when receiving investment-related messages, links or offers through digital platforms.
The Board has stressed that investors should verify information through official sources rather than relying on unverified digital content.
SEBON has also advised investors to consider broader economic, and financial conditions while making investment decisions.
Investors should assess factors such as interest rates, inflation, banking-sector conditions, market trends and other relevant economic developments before investing.
The Board has encouraged investors to diversify their investments to manage risk and maintain an emergency fund so that they do not have to sell investments under unfavorable market conditions.
Investors should also remain cautious about sudden fluctuations in securities prices and trading volumes and be alert to the possibility of market manipulation and the misuse of inside information.
SEBON has reminded investors that securities transactions should be conducted only through securities businesses licensed by the Securities Board of Nepal.
Investors have also been advised to understand the applicable legal provisions, transaction procedures, and fees charged by securities brokers before conducting transactions.
For accurate and reliable information, investors should rely on the official websites and publications of SEBON, NEPSE, CDS and Clearing, Nepal Rastra Bank and other relevant regulatory and market institutions.
SEBON has urged investors with questions or complaints regarding securities investment to contact the concerned securities business, issuer or company, NEPSE and other relevant authorities through official channels.
Through World Investor Week 2026, SEBON aims to strengthen financial literacy and investor protection while encouraging responsible participation in Nepal's capital market.
The campaign is expected to provide investors, particularly young and first-time investors, with greater awareness of investment opportunities, risks, digital fraud, and the importance of making decisions based on reliable information and proper analysis.
SEBON has called on investors and stakeholders to actively participate in the nationwide campaign and contribute to building a more informed, responsible and resilient investment culture in Nepal.
