Saudi Arabia keen to invest in Nepal

Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Nepal Dr Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Busairi in his recent visit told Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal that it is considering to send a high-level delegation to discuss areas of cooperation between the two countries.
Responding to Prime Minister’s invitation to invest in hydropower and tourism in Nepal and suggestion to open a direct air link between the two countries, Dr Abdullah said that the Saudi government was keen on building up strong ties with Nepal and would like to see more areas of economic cooperation.
He also said that Saudi companies prefer Nepali manpower and would like to increase the number further. Saudi Arabia has been one of the most popular destinations for the Nepali job-seekers. According to Department of Labour, 71,116 Nepali migrant workers joined jobs in Saudi Arabia in 2010-11.
Similarly, the Economic Survey stated that some 4,00,562 Nepali migrant workers are in Saudi Arabia.
The Premier thanked Saudi government for provision of necessary protection of Nepali migrant workers and hailed ambassador’s initiative to set up a residential embassy in Kathmandu.
Dr Abdullah — resident ambassador in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka — oversees Nepal also.
