Sana Kisan Bank gathers 750 farmers for summit; Fin Minister seeks their contribution for prosperity

Nearly 750 small farmers have gathered in capital to discuss about the possibilities of poverty alleviation through building strong institutions at the rural areas.

The summit organized by Sana Kisan Bikas Bank Ltd was inaugurated by Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat amid a ceremony today held in capital.

According to the organizers, the two-day long summit will discuss on the achievements, challenges and prospects of small farmers development program run by the bank.
 
Two dozen of plenary sessions are being held at the summit which will feature the issues like roles of small farmers in the expansion of the cooperatives, inflation, insurance of livestock practice of Sana Kisan Bank, upgradation of the financial services at the rural areas and challenge and opportunities of micro finances, among other issues.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Finance Minister Dr Mahat lauded the roles of the Sana Kisan Bank and small famers for contributing toward the poverty reduction in the country.

“The role of the small farmers and the bank should be now not only alleviating the poverty, but driving the country toward the prosperity,” he added.

He also said that the government has introduced various subsidies to the small farmers through the budget speech.
Likewise, speaking at the program, Nepal Rastra Bank governor said that the ‘learn, earn and return’attitude of the small farmers can have positive impact in the nation's economic development.
