SAARC Conclave to attract investment
KATHMANDU:
Nepali private sector is planning to make over the image of Nepal as the viable place for investment to the regional entrepreneurs in the Fourth SAARC Business Leaders Conclave (SBLC) going to be held in Kathmandu.
The entrepreneurs’ summit being organised by SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be held on September 20-September 22 in association with Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI). The conference themed ‘Peace and Prosperity Through Regional Connectivity’, looks forward to at bringing together, the business leaders from South Asia and the world enhancing business connectivity within the region.
“We have to send out the message that there are more opportunities waiting to be tapped in Nepal despite all the problems,” said president of FNCCI Suraj Vaidya, in a press meet organised here today. “Nepal desperately needs to boost the morale and change the mind set of entrepreneurs that Nepal has environment for business in the face of the hindrances as well,” he pointed out, adding that Nepal should be more focused on trying to bring investment in the sectors that have comparative advantage.
FNCCI president also expressed that the message that Nepal can be the transit point for the trade between India and China has to be sent across the region and the world as well.
“The tourism and hydropower have great potential for foreign investment for the obvious comparative advantage due to existence of natural resources,” said chairman of FNCCI’s Energy Committee Gyanendra Lal Pradhan.
“The summit will facilitate intra-regional trade and investments flows within and outside region, and increase partnership and joint ventures between the private sectors,” said vice president SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industries Pradeep Kumar Shrestha. “South Asia is such a vibrant market and full of resources but are importing fuel and other merchandises, if the connectivity and trade between these countries are well established,” he said, adding that all the countries in the region can reap huge benefits in that case.
The event will witness the presence of leading politicians, prominent academicians and corporate heads of the enterprises from the region and around world. The summit aims at determining a persuasive action plan of the private sector of the region to foster the process of regional integration in South Asia. last three summits were held in New Delhi, Mumbai and in Colombo in 2009.
