The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is officially launching its first general convention in Bharatpur, Chitwan today, with all logistical and management tasks fully completed. Party Spokesperson Manish Jha confirmed that essential arrangements including venue organization, lodging, transit, security, and volunteer mobilization are securely in place. The landmark event will be jointly inaugurated by party President Rabi Lamichhane and Prime Minister Balendra Shah, who also serves as a senior leader for the party. A total of 3,918 delegates selected from various local committees across Nepal are attending the convention to participate in critical decisions regarding the party's future.

In preparation for the convention, a recent central committee meeting finalized a major overhaul of the party's leadership structure, proposing to expand the central body from 121 to 151 members. This expansion specifically aims to boost the involvement and leadership of women within the party by introducing mandatory female representation in key executive roles, such as vice-presidents, co-spokespersons, and co-treasurers. To balance leadership styles, the new structure mandates that 99 of these central members will be selected through open, inclusive competitions, while the remaining 51 members will be nominated directly by the party president.

Over the course of the convention, participants will focus their discussions on updating the party rules, debating new policy proposals, and addressing current political issues to strengthen their overall organization. The RSP currently boasts a growing national membership of 500,000 people. Leading up to this national gathering, the party successfully established a wide local footprint, holding conventions in 610 municipalities and selecting representatives from 64 districts across six provinces. Moving forward, the party leadership emphasized that their main priority remains expanding their grassroots presence and building stronger, everyday relationships with the public.
