Rs. 70 m distributed as compensation for broad gauge railway

JANAKPURDHAM, DEC 13: 

Rs. 70 million rupees has been distributed as compensation to the land owners in Dhanusha and Mahottari district by the Nepal government in connection with building of broad gauge railway being extended recently.

The government of India has started construction of 69 km broad gauge railway from Jayanagar of Indian border in the east to Bardibas of Mahottari district as per the president level agreement between Nepal and India in 2008.

The Rail and Metro Development Project has distributed Rs. 55 million for 80 bighas of land in 34 kms from Okhana to Kurtha in Dhanusha in the first phase and Rs. 20 million in Mahottari district.

Under this, survey has been up to 52 kms for building of broad gauge in Mahottari.

Compensation will be given in 52 kms from Jayanagar to Sitapur Bhangaha in the first phase, said Senior Engineer of the Janakpur-Bardibas portion, Tek Raj Bohara.

India has already called tender for earth work and bridge in 29 kms from Jayanagar to Janakpur for Rs. one billion.

Bohara says Nepal will provide land and India will do all the works for the railway. Works of leveling earth is underway at present in three kms from Jayanagar.
