Revenue collection up by 23 pc

CHITWAN, Jan 26:

Inland Revenue Office of Chitwan has collected Rs 3.67 billion in revenue in the first half of this fiscal year.

The collection is up by 23 percent compared to the corresponding period of the last fiscal year, according to the office.

The office has targeted to collect more than Rs eight billion in the fiscal year, said Prem Upadhyaya, chief of the office, adding, “We are close to our target in the first half of the year,” added Upadhyaya.

The taxes collected include income tax, house rent tax, Value Added Tax, health service tax and education taxes from industries, business houses and income tax paying individuals.
A total of Rs 2.99 billion is collected as excise duties and tops the tax collection category. Likewise, it has collected Rs 346 million in income tax, rental house tax and interest tax. The office covers the entire areas of Chitwan and the half of Nawalparasi, east of Daunne.

The area has some of the largest industrial bases like Chaudhary Udhyog Gram, Gorkha Brewery and Mount Everest Brewery.

The Inland Revenue Office is upbeat also because the government has invited taxpayers to come into tax net by the end of mid-January, stating that their income details of the past three years will not be sought and income tax would be waived.
