Regmi-led govt put country back into motion: Outgoing FinMin

Outgoing Finance Minister Shankar Prasad Koirala on Tuesday claimed that the interim election government provided the momentum to the country held back by political and economic stagnation. Koirala made this remark during his farewell at the Finance Ministry.

Lauding the role of the officials at the Finance Ministry, Koirala said that the country’s economic indicators were on a right track due to mutual effort of the ministry officials and sound financial management of the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB).

He hoped that the new government would benefit from the healthy economy and requested the government to move ahead by giving priority to the economic agenda.

On the same occasion, NRB Governor Yuva Raj Khatiwada said that it was an achievement of the interim government to maintain sound financial sector and economic indicators. Finance Secretary Shanta Raj Subedi also said that it was a big success of the finance minister to endorse the anti-money laundering bills to forestall blacklisting of Nepal by the Financial Action Task Force.

He further said that timely budget presentation, controlling revenue leakage, growth in donor assistance; among others were other positive works of the government led by former government bureaucrats.  

Meanwhile, in a separate function, the commerce and supplies and the Industry ministries bade farewell to Minister Koirala, who was also holding the portfolio.
