Raw materials of iron-based industries top imports through Birgunj ICD
BIRGUNJ, July 30: Various raw materials required for iron-based industries were the top revenue contributor for Birgunj Inland Clearance Depot (ICD) in 2013/14.
Customs office at the ICD collected Rs 3.82 billion in revenue from the raw materials for iron industries in 2013/14. The amount accounted for 27 percent of the total revenue of Rs 14.37 billion mobilized by the office during the year.
The revenue collected from raw materials from iron-based industries is 62.88 percent higher than the amount mobilize in 2012/13. The customs office had collected Rs 2.34 billion as revenue from the import of iron related materials in 2012/13.
Most of these raw materials come from India, according to the custom office.
Nepal imported 188,286 tons of MS Billets though the ICD in 2013/14. The office mobilized Rs 1.75 billion in revenue from MS Billets alone. Similarly, the country imported 111,505 tons of HR sheet, 74,245 tons pig iron and 41,586 tons through the ICD in 2013/14.
Likewise, pistachio, plastic granules, liquor, aluminum products, sugar, plastic utilities, lubricants, pepper, bitumen, cardamom, peas, carpet, paper and betel nuts were the other top imports through the customs office in 2013/14.
