Raise in Gold suppress Nepse

The start of this week was a positive for Nepse as the surge of 6 points helped to push the benchmark index to 41 days high. Despite the increase in the turnover in the following days, Nepse started to decline as the surge in the price of Gold above Rs 60,000 which is all time high, motivated the investors to diversify their portfolio in Gold. In the previous days, people used to take Gold for jewellery items only but from few years back with the global economic crisis, the investors are diversifying their portfolio in Gold as it is taken as safe heaven and also its price volatility provides more return.

 

In spite the fall in the Nepse level, the index has still maintained a higher ground by 2.62 points as compare to previous week’s closing. At the end of the week, the market index closed at 408.44 level.

 

Among the sub-indices that hugely supported the Nepse incline was Insurance sector as it added 6.27% in its tally. The main contributor to Insurance sectors raise was Nepal Life Insurance Co. Ltd.  as the scrip added Rs 122. Similarly, Manufacturing sector also contributed as the sub-indices increased by 4.98% points. This week also the raise in the Uniliver Nepal Ltd. by Rs 346 helped to push the Manufacturing index up.

 

Likewise, other contributors were Hotels, Hydro, Banking and Development with 3.26%, 2.79%, 1.04% and 0.31% points incline respectively. Under Hydro, the climb in the stock of Butwal and Chilime by Rs 25 and Rs 29 respectively, supported the raise of Hydro sector. Similarly in Hotels sector also increment in scrip of Soaltee by Rs 13 helped to push the Hotel sector up. Whereas in Banking, raise in the dividend declared companies like Lumbini, Nepal SBI, BOK along with SCB , Sanima helped to uplift this sector. Among the dividend declared companies JBNL was only the decliner, it lost Rs 2 to close at Rs 125.

 

The only decliner in the sub-indices were Others and Finance sector with 1.88% and 0.06% loss respectively.  As the fall in the scrip of NTC by Rs 11 complemented in the lost of Others sector while heavy lost in the Hama Merchant and Himalayan Finance by Rs 38 and 12 push the Finance sector further down. Among other sub-indices, Sensitive index added 0.62 or 0.59% to settle at 105.25 level while Float index also gained 0.20 or 0.66% points to settle at 30.71 level.

 

In overall week transaction, Lumbini General Insurance (LGIL), closed at Rs 114, was the Top Gainer with Rs 25 or 28.09%. On the other side, Bageshowori Dev. Bank (BBBLN), closed at Rs 128, was the Top Loser with Rs 104 or 44.83%.

 

In case of highest transaction, Hama Merchant & Finance Ltd. (HAMA), closed at 59, had the highest transaction with 1,129 times. Whereas in the category of highest share traded Nepal Bangladesh Bank Ltd. (NBBL), closed at Rs 131, topped with 102,116 units.

 

In terms of turnover, Chilime Hydro power Co. (CHCL), closed at Rs 1099, had the highest turnover with 50,412 units worth Rs. 55,093,282; in which Broker No 33 (Dachinkali Investment Securities Pvt.Ltd ) was most active broker with 25.83% stand alone dealing of CHCL, totaling 12,994 units worth Rs 14,231,134 via 45 transactions which includes 7 matching transaction of 402 units worth Rs 436,998.

 

Total scrips traded for the week were 126 with 73 gainers, 12 intact and 41 Losers .Overall week’s turnover was of Rs 332,218,064 which is comparatively Rs 2,897, 6531 or 9.56% higher than prior week. Overall 1,253,578 units of shares were traded via 8,646 transactions. The total market capitalization at the end of review period was Rs 386,510.54 millions which is higher by Rs 2,480.6 millions compare to previous week’s closing.
