Railway management plan sought
KATHMANDU:
Public Account Committee (PAC) under Legislature Parliament today directed Ministry of Labour and Transport Management, Ministry of Physical Planning and Works and Finance Ministry to prepare action plan on operation and maintenance of Nepal Railway within 15 days.
PAC has today directed — with the specific time period — to the Ministry of Labour and Transportation after the ministry failed to comply with the committee’s repeated directives.
The committee on January 21 had directed Finance Ministry to provide Rs 139 million for the immediate maintenance of Nepal Railway’s network to make its service effective, reliable and safe.
Earlier, the committee on September 2, 2010 had issued a nine-point directive to the Ministry of Labour and Transport Management and Nepal Railway to build a bridge over the Bighi River to start the 51-km railway service between Janakpur to Bijulipura, to upgrade the Janakpur-Jayanagar railway line into broad gauge and prepare a report on the assets of the company.
Currently, Nepal Railway operates on the 29-km length between Janakpur and Jayanagar three times a day. The company has 171 employees.
Minister for Labour and Transportation Management Mohammad Istiyak Rai, Secretary of Labour and Transport Ministry Dinesh Hari Adhikari and General Manager of Railway Corporation Anil Gurung were present in today’s meeting that decided to summon secretaries of Physical Planning and Works, Finance and other ministries in the next meeting slated for August 11.
Similarly, the committee also directed Finance and Home Ministries and Office of the Prime Minister to submit a detail list of aid provided for treatment and financial assistance. It also urged the ministries to submit the detail financial assistant of last three year within three days, the committee’s chairman Ramkrishna Yadav said.
