Pvt sector flays diesel dual pricing

KATHMANDU, JAN 24 -

The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) have condemned the government’s move of reinforcing duel pricing on diesel and requested a roll back.

The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) reintroduced the dual price on January 20 to make up its losses. The duel pricing has been enforced for those consuming over 4,000 litres per week.

Diesel price for bulk consumer has been fixed at Rs 97.90 per litre—Rs 12.90 more than the price fixed for general consumers.

At a time when industries are already coping with extended load-shedding hours, the reinforcement of dual pricing on diesel will hurt industrial production, the private sector bodies said in a joint press statement.

They also asked the government to revoke the decision, warning of a decisive protest if the government does not do so.

On December 10, the NOC had enforced two rates on diesel for industries, hotels, hospitals, and diplomatic missions. However, the corporation was compelled to roll back the price following pressure from the business entrepreneurs.
