KATHMANDU, Sept 6:

Energy Minister Radha Gyawali has said that the Power Trade Agreement (PTA) with India has opened doors for Nepal’s development.

Speaking at a press conference here in Capital on Saturday, Minister Gwayali said that the preliminary PTA was inked with an agreement with all political parties including the UCPN (Maoist).

According to her, the agreement has opened doors for investment from India, China and other south Asian countries.

She expressed her belief that the agreement will be also helpful for attracting investment from private sectors.

On the occasion, Minister Gwayali said that the PTA signed at secretary-level meeting will presented at the parliament after endorsement from the cabinet, adding that the Investment Board is planning to sign PDA on Upper Karnali.

On a different note, she warned of implementing the direction from the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) to scrap hydropower licenses of those failing to make progress despite holding licenses.
