Private sector to focus on good business practices

KATHMANDU, DEC 03: 

Private sector will promote good business practices to create a clean image.

“Our activities for next year will be focused on building a fair business 

environment,” said president of National Business Initiative (NBI) Padma Jyoti, during the sixth anniversary of National Business Initiative.

“The initiative will also conduct dialogues on the safety of entrepreneurs,” Jyoti said, adding that threats to entrepreneurs have been major obstacles to development in the current political turmoil. 

“We will propose a special security plan in a public-private partnership model,” Jyoti added.

More than one dozen private sector organisations, including Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Nepal Chamber of Commerce, Hotel Association Nepal, and Nepal Association of Foreign Employment Agencies are 

associated with the initiative that aims to promote business in the country and abroad. 

In the programme, former president of Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) and the current general secretary of National Business Initiative Surendra Bir Malakar mentioned that entrepreneurs in the country have not been able to get the peace dividend despite the end of the armed conflict. 

“Therefore, political instability should end early,” he said, adding that promulgation of a new constitution is a must for peace and stability that can ensure an investment friendly environment by encouraging the private sector.

National Business Initiative has been conducting a study on the security situation of entrepreneurs — that could help instill confidence in the business fraternity — in Morang, Sunsari, Bara, Parsa, Kailali and Kathmandu districts.
