Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has successfully secured a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives (HoR) for the fourth time. In a session with 158 MPs present, Dahal received overwhelming support, with 157 votes in favor and just one vote against him.

The vote of confidence was necessitated by the exit of the Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal from the government and the subsequent withdrawal of its support on May 13. According to the constitution, a prime minister must seek a vote of confidence within 30 days following the withdrawal of support by a coalition partner. Dahal sought the vote in accordance with Article 100 (2) of the Constitution.

Dahal, who assumed office on December 25, 2022, has now faced and passed four votes of confidence. The most recent prior vote occurred on March 13, 2024, after the Nepali Congress (NC) withdrew its support, during which he also received 157 votes. His second vote of confidence was secured on March 20, 2023, and the first on January 10, 2023.

The next meeting of the HoR is scheduled for Tuesday at 11 AM.
