Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has resigned from his post following significant loss of life and property during the ongoing anti-corruption movement. The Prime Minister’s Secretariat has confirmed his resignation. Oli has also called for an all-party meeting on Tuesday evening.

Oli was most recently appointed as Prime Minister on Ashadh 30, 2081 BS. A member of parliament since 2048 BS, Oli has held power in various capacities over the years. He became Prime Minister on Ashwin 24, 2072 BS, and later served a second term in 2074 BS. In 2078 BS, he briefly assumed the role for a third time. In his latest tenure, formed in alliance with the Nepali Congress, Oli faced growing dissatisfaction from the public over unmet expectations, which ultimately spilled onto the streets.

President Ramchandra Paudel has approved Oli’s resignation, effective immediately. According to the President’s Office, in line with Article 77(3) of the Constitution of Nepal, the current Council of Ministers will continue to function until a new cabinet is formed.
