Prices of seasonal vegetables rise

KATHMANDU, March 2: The retail price of vegetables at the Kalimati Fruits and Vegetables Market is in an increasing trend as the production of seasonal vegetables is coming to an end.

The price of tomatoes in retail increased by 20 per cent to Rs 50 a kg against Rs 40 per kg last week. The wholesale price of tomatoes increased by more than 27 per cent, resting at Rs 44 per kg, up from Rs 32 per kg last week.Submit

Similarly, the retail price of green peas and capsicum rose by 28 and 34 per cent, respectively, to Rs 70 a kg and Rs 90 per kg. Green peas and capsicum were priced at around Rs 50 a kg and Rs 60 per kg, respectively, last week.

The retail price of cauliflowers, onions and potatoes are almost similar to that of last week, hovering at around Rs 40, Rs 35 and Rs 30 per kg, respectively.

“This week, Kalimati received around 600 tonnes of fruits and vegetables,” said senior planning officer at Kalimati Fruits and Vegetables Market Development Board Binaya Shrestha.

The retail price of fruits this week is almost similar to that of last week. Apples are being sold at around Rs 120 a kg, which was at the same level last week.

Similarly, the price of oranges hovers at around Rs 70 per kg and bananas are being sold at Rs 60

a dozen. The price of black grapes has come down to Rs 140 a kg from Rs 160 last week.
