Prez sets Aug 21 as deadline for consensus govt
KATHMANDU, Aug 15:
Following Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal´s resignation, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has called on political parties to form a consensus government by August 21 at 5:00 pm.
President Yadav, as the Head of the State, has set the timeframe for formation of a consensus government as per Article 38 (1) of the Interim Constitution of Nepal.
If parties fail to meet the deadline, the President , invoking Article 38 (2) of the Interim Constitution, will have to ask the parties to form a majority government through a vote in parliament.
PM Khanal resigned coming under pressure from opposition parties and a section of leaders from his own party CPN-UML on Sunday, a day after the expiry of a self-imposed deadline for his resignation.
