President Paudel Appeals for Unity Amid Rasuwa Crisis
President Ram Chandra Paudel has called on political parties, elected representatives, civil society, aid and rescue organizations, the private sector, business community and the public to stand united as the country responds to the disaster caused by the Rasuwa floods. Addressing the nation on Monday after inspecting the flood affected areas, he said, “This is not a time for division. It is not a time to blame one another or get caught up in political disputes and confrontation. This is a time to demonstrate national unity and solidarity.”
President Paudel also stressed the need to prioritize reconstruction, rehabilitation and economic recovery following the disaster. He said the crisis also calls for a review of the country’s development approach. “This is also a time for reconstruction, rehabilitation and economic recovery,” he said. “As we move into the process of reconstruction, rehabilitation and economic recovery, I feel that we should also reconsider our development model.”
