Preparations for three trade fairs going on in full swing

BIRATNAGAR, JAN 18 -

Preparations for Birat Trade Fair-2014, which will run from January 15 to February 1, have reached their final stages.

Morang Merchant Association, the organiser of the event, said all stalls have been booked. “The stalls have been booked faster than what we anticipated,” said Avinash Bohora, president of the association. “There is still demand for stalls.”

Out of the total 158 stalls, Bangladeshi traders have booked six, Indian traders have booked nine, Chinese have booked four, and traders from Pakistan, Japan, and Sri Lanka have booked one each, according to Bohora. Ten stalls have been provided for free to District Chamber of Commerce and Industry from hilly regions to promote their native products.  

The Ministry of Commerce and Supplies, Ministry of Agriculture Development, District Development Committee, Biratnagar Sub-Metropolitan City, Nepal Tourism Board, Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry have supported the event, while Asian Thai Foods is the title sponsor.

The trade fair , which also aims to lessen the gap between consumers and producers, is expected to help find markets for products manufactured locally. The expo will host products manufactured by domestic Small and Micro Enterprises (SMEs), middle scale industries as well as large scale ones. The organisers have expected around 300,000 visitors from Nepal and bordering Indian towns and transaction of Rs 50 million.

Meanwhile, preparations for the 8th National Industrial Trade Fair in Pokhara is going on in full swing. The fair , which will run from Jan 23 to Feb 4, aims at promoting and marketing of local goods.

Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), the organiser of the event, said the expo will showcase products from sectors like industry, agriculture, handicraft, information technology, education, health and tourism.

The organiser has expected 300,000 visitors in the event, which is housing 270 stalls showcasing auto products, handicraft, floriculture and agro products and IT products and daily essential goods.

PCCI President Sanjeev Bahadur Koirala said the event will be a platform for bringing together unemployed youths and institutions imparting skills for employment generation.

In collaboration with Helvetas, the fare will provide information on entrepreneurship. UN Habitat will offer information on building environment friendly, earthquake resistant houses in local style. PCCI said all the stalls have been booked.

In Parbat, the District Chamber of Commerce and Industry has said it is preparing to organise a trade fare to expose the potential of the industrial sector in all 16 districts of Western Nepal.

Agrawal elected MIA prez

BIRATNAGAR: The 42nd annual general meeting of Morang Industry Associat-ion (MIA) has unanimously elected Shiva Shankar Agrawal as its new president. Mukesh Kumar Bhat-trai was elected first vice president, Suyesh Pyaku-rel second vice president and Nawal Kishore Kavra as third vice president. The executive committee of the association includes Rakesh Surana, Sushil Rijal, Raj Kumar Golchha, Suresh Kumar Dhanawat, Nanda Kishore Rathi, Kamal Kishore Rathi and Subodh Koirala.
