Power outage up, 56 hours a week now

KATHMANDU, NOV 28 -

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has increased loadshedding hours to 56 hours a week from the existing 46 hours effective Wednesday.

The NEA hiked loadshedding hours by 10 hours a week as import of 30 MW of power through the Tanakpur-Mahendranagar Transmission Line stopped for three days after the transmission line went defunct.

“The transmission line is under maintenance and will

not come back into operation until next week,” said Bhuwan Chettri, chief of the System Operations Department at the NEA.

Chettri claimed that less electricity was being imported through cross-border transmission lines from India compared to the amount of energy imported last year. “We are only importing 80 MW of energy, unlike the import of 100 MW last year during this time,” he said.
