Police Arrest Three Suspects for Illegal Online Sports Betting Involving Rs 574.1 Million in Nepal

A team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office of Nepal Police apprehended three individuals from Sarlahi on charges of participating in online sports betting activities through the 1XBET platform, an online betting application.

The arrested individuals are identified as 31-year-old Sanjay Kumar Sah, 19-year-old Ramji Sah, and 30-year-old Rakesh Chaudhary, all residents of Malangwa, Sarlahi. Superintendent of Police (SP) Rabindra Regmi, the spokesperson for the office, disclosed that the trio was detained for their involvement in betting on various sports events via the 1XBET platform.

Investigations conducted by law enforcement revealed that the arrested individuals had allegedly opened 21 Connect IPS accounts and 98 bank accounts using different mobile numbers. Transactions amounting to Rs 574.1 million were purportedly conducted from these accounts, as per police reports.

The police are currently probing the three arrested individuals for violating Section 125 of the National Penal Code and Chapter-5, which encompasses offenses against Public Interest, Health, Safety, Convenience, and Morals. Seized items include nine mobile phones, 21 SIM cards, two laptops, one CPU, Rs 62,000 in cash, and various cooperative passbooks and bank checkbooks. The arrested individuals have been remanded to the District Police Range, Kathmandu, for further investigation.
