Pokhara bank robbery mastermind in police net

A police investigation has revealed the same group of former Maoist combatants was involved in the recent bank robbery cases in Pokhara and Rautahat.

The kingpin of the armed robbery in Pokhara , in which the robbers shot at an employee of Yeti Development Bank and looted Rs 3.14 million from Mega Saving and Credit Cooperatives some seven months ago, was arrested with weapon.

The police make public Sushil Kumar Dulal, 33, of Chandranigahapur-1, Rautahat, at a press meet here on Monday. Dulal is former Rautahat chairman of Maoist-affiliated All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary.

Dulal was nabbed with a German-made 9-mm pistol, three bullets, Rs 441,500, ATM cards and blank cheques. The investigation officers said the same pistol was used in both the incidents.

In Rautahat, the group had looted Rs 2 million from an individual at the gates of Nepal SBI Bank at Chandrapur -1, on November 18. The police arrested Narayan Rai soon after the incident.

Other members of the group are Bijaya KC of Rolpa, Basanta Giri of Rukum, Narayan Rai of Sindhuli and Ujjwal Rokaya Chhetri of Salyan, according to the police. All of them are former Maoist combatants.
