KATHMANDU, JUN 18 -

Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai is due to leave for Brazil to attend the Rio plus 20 summit on Monday afternoon.

The prime minister will lead the Nepali delegation to the Rio plus 20 summit to be held from June 20 to 22 at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

The delegation includes PM’s wife Hishila Yami, Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Environment Minister Keshav Man Shakya, and other senior government officials.

Rio plus 20 marks the 20th anniversary of the 1992 UN Conference on Environment and Development organised in Brazil, and the 10th anniversary of the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development held in South Africa.

Sessions will focus on two themes: how to build a green economy to achieve sustainable development and lift people out of poverty, including support for developing countries that will allow them to find green path for development; and how to improve global coordination for sustainable development.
