PM Koirala meets ADB chief Nakao
KATHMANDU, FEB 03 -
Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on Monday met Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Takehiko Nakao and appreciated the lender’s continuous support in Nepal’s development.
Nakao is on a three-day visit to Nepal to mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of ADB Nepal Resident Mission.
During the meeting, the prime minister informed the visiting delegation that his government was making every effort to meet the development aspirations of the people. He said the Power Trade Agreement and development pacts for Upper Karnali and Arun III hydropower projects with India were crucial in Nepal’s development endeavor.
PM Koirala said investment environment in Nepal was improving and hoped the ADB would play a key supporting role in building the momentum further. He appreciated ADB’s continued support to Nepal’s aviation, road, urban development, drinking water, agriculture, health and education, among other sectors.
On the occasion, Nakao said ADB was considering widening the areas of cooperation in Nepal rather than increasing project numbers so that the initiative would benefit more Nepalis.
He said most of the Asian nations have made impressive economic strides, and Nepal should not miss the opportunity of economic growth.
Nakao will hold separate meetings with the National Planning Commission’s vice-chairman, Nepal Rastra Bank’s governor and other senior government officials.
