PM Karki Urges Swift Election Preparations for March 5 Polls

Prime Minister Sushila Karki has directed the Election Commission to accelerate preparations for the House of Representatives election slated for March 5 next year. She stressed that ensuring free, fair, impartial, and cost-effective elections remains the government’s top priority, pledging full support in resources, manpower, and security.
Officials said the government is preparing to amend the Voter Registration Act 2073 through ordinance so that citizens aged 18 and above can still be registered even after the election date is announced. The move is expected to add a significant number of first-time voters to the rolls.
Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari stated that ballot boxes and other essential materials are already in stock, with additional supplies to be arranged domestically if required. He added that the Commission would coordinate with political parties, civil society, and the media to ensure smooth conduct of the polls.
