KATHMANDU, DEC 09 -

Chief Secretary Leela Mani Paudel on Monday said telecom companies have to offer services as per the publicity.

Addressing the Integrity Pledge Signing Ceremony, in which Ncell signed an agreement with Transparency International Nepal showing its commitment against corruption, Paudel said the operators have to abiding by this promises to the consumers.

“There are also some controversies regarding Ncell’s shareholding structure.

I urge the company to be transparent over the issue as soon as possible,” Paudel said. “This event should not just be a publicity stunt.”

Ncell CEO Erim Taylanlar said the company was delighted to be part of such an initiative as it is stringent about the code of ethics.

“We will be a strong defender of ethics and also urge national as well as international corporates to join the initiative against corruption,” he said.

Ncell has stated it will adhere to the company’s code of ethics and code of conduct, anti corruption policy, supplier code of conduct and supplier due diligence procedures among several other initiatives to counter corruption within the company.

Bharat Bahadur Thapa, president of Transparency International Nepal, said the non-transparency maintained by the corporates has emerged as the biggest challenge. “A step has been taken.

Now, this is also a challenge for all of us to make them abide by all the rules and norms,” Thapa said.
