Patan High Court Clears Path for Business Complexes to Collect Parking Fees in Kathmandu

The Patan High Court has recently given the green light for business complexes in Kathmandu to impose parking fees on their customers.
Initially, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City had enforced a legal provision preventing business complexes from charging parking fees to their patrons.
However, a significant turn of events occurred when a petition was lodged by business proprietors challenging this decision. In response, Judge Rajendra Kharel of the single bench, overseeing the case, solicited a written response from the Kathmandu Metropolitan City during the court session held on Monday.
Subsequently, a crucial development emerged on the 30th day of Shrawan, wherein both parties involved have been summoned for a comprehensive discussion regarding the potential issuance of an interim order.
As the deliberations unfold, a short-term interim order has already been issued, bearing the name of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City. This directive effectively allows business complexes to continue collecting parking fees within the parking lots situated within their commercial premises, ensuring that the status quo is maintained until Shrawan 30.
The decision of the Patan High Court carries significant implications for business complexes and their customers alike. It not only addresses the issue of parking fees but also underscores the evolving legal landscape that governs business operations within the Kathmandu Metropolitan Area.
The upcoming discussions and eventual verdict on the interim order are poised to shape the trajectory of parking fee regulations, potentially setting a precedent for similar matters in the future.
