Pancheshwar DPR within six months

KATHMANDU, Nov 22:

The second meeting of Pancheshwar Development Authority has decided to entrust the task of preparing Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the development of Pancheshwar Multipurpose Project to Water and Power Consultancy Services (WAPCOS).

The meeting held in New Delhi on Wednesday and Thursday also decided to complete DPR within six months.

In the meeting, WAPCOS, an undertaking of the Indian government, tabled the assessment of DPRs prepared separately carried by India and Nepal.

The meeting was co-chaired by energy secretary Rajendra Kishore Kshatri and Indian water resources secretary Alok Rawat. It also decided to appoint staff for the joint office in Kanchanpur within three months and finalize the qualifications for CEO and Additional CEO of the authority.

The meeting also decided to allow the Nepali side to appoint the CEO and the Indian side to appoint the Additional CEO.

Upon his return from New Delhi, Keshav Dhwaj Adhikari, joint secretary at the energy ministry, said the meeting also decided to finalize qualifications and remunerations of eight executives of the authority, including CEO and additional CEO, in the near future.

 “India will propose the qualifications and their remunerations and we will finalize it through correspondence,” added Adhikari. The appointments of other officials will be made by the executives of the authority.

The next meeting of the authority will be held in Nepal. But the dates have not been finalized.
