PAC directs NT to enhance quality

KATHMANDU, NOV 24: 

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) under Legislature Parliament today directed Nepal Telecom (NT) to continue the process of installation of solar plant to enhance Quality of Service (QoS).

Though, the committee cannot reach into the conclusion, it decided to continue hearing on the issue. 

“The committee directed Ministry of Information and Communications and the Nepal Telecom to submit all the documents including decisions, process and tender procedure within three days,” president Ram Krishna Yadav said.

Nepal Telecom has been charged of breaching Public Procurement Act in the bidding process of solar installation projects.

Yunnan Tianda of LS Solar had filed a case at Public Procurement Monitoring Office claiming that Nepal Telecom had breached the Act.

However, managing director at Nepal Telecom Amar Nath Singh today claimed that it had not breached the Act. 

“Nepal Telecom cannot compete with private sector, if Nepal Telecom continues to be attacked from different sectors,” he said.

Nepal Telecom has awarded the tender of Solar Power System tender to Beijing Ecom Energy Technology, which has committed to complete project at Rs 144.95 million.

Nepal Telecom decided to grant the project to Beijing Ecom Energy since its managing director has right to approve tender bid up to Rs 400 million, secretary at the Ministry of Information and Communication Shreedhar Gautam said.

Installation of solar system is very essential to maintain Quality of Service (QoS) at the time of power outage, managing director Singh said, adding that hindrance from different agencies has hit the business of Nepal Telecom.
