OVER ONE BILLION WORTH TRANSACTION CARRIED OUT IN NEPSE

Nepal Stock Exchange today created a history by carrying out transactions of over one billion rupee worth Rs 1,034,117,522 in a single day. This is the first time in the long history of Nepse that such a mammoth amount of transaction concluded in one trading day.
Prior to today, the record for the highest single day transaction amount stood at Rs 746,007,855 which was set back in the month of July, 2011. Large block transaction of Bottlers Nepal Ltd. (Balaju) worth Rs 725,109,705 mainly attributed to such enormous turnover back at that time.
Coming to today’s market volume, the hefty transaction of Nepal Bangladesh bank promoter share (NBBPO) manually ignited the market turnover in the such pinnacle position and prolonging the Nepse transaction time to 3:30pm from 3:00pm.
Acting upon the agreement reached between the NBB and Bangladesh based IFIC Bank, NB groups’ share at the rate of Rs 220 per share; totaling 2,914,012 worth Rs 757,643,120 were formally transferred to the IFIC bank through the block transfer provision, in the secondary market today.
Today’s execution was the first phase of the share transfer as per the arrangement between the banks, the rest of the share transfer worth Rs 65 crore is set to be concluded within the next one month. After the conclusion of share transfer of the NB group along with the Bank Asia Ltd., the IFIC stake in NBB will stand at 51% from the current 9.18%.
Similarly, investors continued scrambling for the NBB ordinary shares, boosting the scrip by Rs 22 or 6.03% and amplifying the turnover to Rs 53,399,323. Altogether, 143,405 units of shares were traded by the 360 transactions.
The broker with the highest standalone dealing of the NBB was Broker No 32 (Premier Securities Company Limited) with 11.50% amounting Rs 12,276,850 via 65 transactions totaling 33,245 which include 2 matching transactions totaling 680 units worth Rs 251,600.
Excluding the NBBPO block transactions also, the market participation was still high compared to other trading days, as the turnover of other general shares stood at Rs 276,474,400 which were carried out by 2,236 transactions totaling 827,099 units.
The market index despite high participation was not able propel high today as the local bourse was able to come out from the red zone at the end of the day with a meagre gain of 0.18 points to close at 551.55 levels.
Among the sub-indices, Insurance sector increased by 15.84 points followed by Others and Hydro with 12.92 and 10.64 point drop respectively. While, Hotels and Finance made a slight incline of 1.31 and 1.1 points respectively.
Whereas, Manufacturing made tumble of 10.38 points alongside 3.6 points drop in Banking and 0.89 points loss in Development.
All in all, the scrips of 113 companies were traded, out of which 40 scrips gained, 13 remained intact and 60 scrips lost.
The best performer for the day was, Himalayan Gen. Insu. Co. Ltd. (HGI), closed at Rs 333, with Rs 30 or 9.90% gain. Whereas, the worst performer was, United Insurance Co. (Nepal) Ltd. (UIC), closed at Rs 170, with Rs 15 or 8.11% loss.
