Ongoing lockdown the best time to plant seeds of success for tomorrow; Find out what an 18 years old student has in offer

Thu, May 28, 2020 7:27 AM on Exclusive,

I am 18 and It has been barely 6 months I had my first investment. In this short time frame, I have seen 60% increment in my portfolio and also lost almost 90% of that increment.  NEPSE has been closed for more than two months now.(opened for two days in between). But, this  situation is temporary. Covid 19 too is temporary. We should be strong because things will be better tomorrow. There are far better things ahead than any we leave behind. We will never get this much free again. We have been locked down. During these days, we must focus on ourselves and can learn following approach.

Develop a long term approach:"Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree long time ago.- Warren Buffet.

We often overestimate what we can achieve in short term but underestimate what we can achieve in long term. Compounding is the eighth wonder of the world. NEPSE is giving you 19% compounding annual growth rate (CAGR) since 2012. With that rate, Rs 1 invested today becomes Rs 13.6 in 15 years and Rs 32.4 in 20 years. Market can be volatile in short term but gives you good return in longer term.

Try to get out of Comfort Zone:

"Everything you've ever wanted is one step outside of your comfort zone."- anonymous

We are likely to miss many opportunities if we never come out of comfort zone. I have been exercising and meditating since the starting days of lockdown for at least an hour. To get out of your comfort zone, you can start with anything that is out of your usual routine.

Also, this phase of lockdown is the right time to think what we want in life and to find our passion. I have been reading books since very long. I have following suggestions that will take you closer towards your goal.

I). Winners and losers have the same goal. It's consistent focus, hard work and determination that determines the winner.

II). What can we do today, that would make tomorrow better? the answer of this question is the only way to create free time in future. This is the modern approach of time management.

III). Invest in yourself. Acquire new skills that you need. We should never stop learning.

IV). Effects of our hard work often are seen in long time period. 1% self improvement each day will make you 37 times better in a year.

V). Start acting now. Don't postpone. Action that you can't take today, won't get started tomorrow.

VI). Imagination is everything. We should develop our image of what we want to be in 10-20 years everyday for at least 10 minutes.

VII). Don't wait for fully formed ideas. They come better as we start working on them.

VIII). Money is only a tool and never should be the end game.
