KATHMANDU, June 11:
Average tourist arrivals increased by 20 per cent in the current fiscal year.

The arrivals will not be sufficient to achieve Nepal Tourism Year 2011 target,” said coordinator of the Nepal Tourism Year 2011 committee Yogendra Shakya during the inaugural ceremony of the fourth National Tourism Fair in the capital Kathmandu today.

“The arrivals should be at least 30 per cent to meet the Nepal Tourism Year 2011 target of hosting one million tourists,” he said.

Shakya also urged the government to be more focused on the promotion and marketing of tourism year. “The government should focus more on increasing number of tourists inflow in the country,” he said, adding that the arrivals have not increased significantly.

The three-day tourism fair aimed at promoting Nepal as the major tourist destination is showcasing stalls of 95 different tourism destinations and organisations.

It will last till Sunday at Bhrikutimandap.

“The fair is expected to promote Nepal as the international tourist destination,” said chief executive officer of the Nepal Tourism Board Prachanda Man Shrestha.

“The board is planning to organise regional tourism fairs too,” he added.
