NTC helps limit Nepse loss to 6.8 points today; turnover crosses Rs 16 crore

Continuing the sluggish market after the Dashain, the benchmark index of Nepal Stock Exchange Limited (Nepse) shed 6.84 points or 0.74 percent to close at 915.04 level on the first day of the second trading week after the festive holidays.
Though the Nepse index had lost more than 10 points or above 1 percent up to the dying moments, the market recovered half the points in the last seven or eight minutes of the trading today – thanks to the last moment trading of NTC, which has the highest market capitalization among the listed companies. It may be noted that the price of NTC scrip surged from Rs 628 to Rs 645 within the last three minutes of trading today.
No wonder that the Others group, which includes NTC, was the among the only two sub-indices to remain in the green zone today. The Hotels group also gained 10.65 points.
Banking sub-index, which covers around 80 percent of the total market cap, lost 13.14 points, Development Bank 3.72 points, Hydropower 13.55 points, Finance 1.76 points, Insurance 57.76 points and the Manufacturing group shed 1.71 points.
As the investors are gradually coming out of the festive mood, and also being more familiar with the CDS system, the total market turnover has improved today and stood at over Rs 16 crore as compared to around Rs 10 crore a day on average last week.
