NTB partners Coca-Cola Nepal for Antarctica expedition.

KATHMANDU, FEB 28:

Coca-Cola Nepal has partnered with renowned environmentalist Sir Robert Swan’s expedition to Antarctica. The expedition will help create awareness on climate change.

Member from Coca-Cola Sabco Swati Lohia has been chosen as part of an international team of volunteers to Antarctica.

The expedition ‘Inspire Antarctica Expedition 2013’ is scheduled to commence today and will last till March 13. Swan is recognised as an exceptional motivational speaker, Polar explorer and the first person ever to have walked to the North and South poles.

He will be venturing on this remarkable journey to help create awareness about environmental issues and climate change joining hands with several organisations like Coca-Cola.

A special send-off reception for Swati Lohia was held at Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) on Tuesday. Secretary of ministry of industry Krishna Gyawali handed over the national flag to Lohia to take it with her to Antarctica. Acting CEO of Nepal Tourism Board Subash Nirola also handed over the flag with a tourism message to celebrate the diamond jubilee anniversary of the first ascent of Mount Everest to Lohia to carry it during her expedition.

Present on the occasion were country manager for Nepal of Coca-Cola Sabco Salman Latif Rawn and country manager for Nepal and Bhutan of Coca-Cola Far East Shadab Khan.

The Coca-Cola company places a strong emphasis on being a sustainable business in the countries in which it operates.

Across the world, the company undertakes various programmes to work with local partners and communities on various issues like water and sanitation, environmental protection and promoting a healthy active lifestyle.

As part of the expedition, Lohia will learn not only about how climate change is affecting the earth’s atmosphere, but will also enhance her team building and leadership skills as part of the ‘Leadership on the Edge’ programme.

She will represent Nepal at the international level and will return home as an environmental crusader, inspiring fellow citizens to engage on the issue of sustainability and climate protection. She will also promote the message of Nepal celebrating the diamond jubilee anniversary of the first ascent of Mount Everest as a tourism ambassador for the country.
