NT workers demand managing director for full term
KATHMANDU, Aug 13:
Different workers´ unions at Nepal Telecom (NT) have jointly demanded with the government to appoint managing director for full term.
The Telecom Employees´ Association of Nepal (TEAN), Nepal Telecom Employees Union (NTEU) and National Employees Organization of Nepal (NEON) recently submitted a memorandum to the Minister for Information and Communications Minendra Rijal, drawing the attention of the latter for early appointment of managing director.
“Instead of appointing managing director for short period or appointing officiating managing director, the government should appointment managing director for full term,” the unions said in a statement. “As the state-owned telecom operator has to compete with multinational companies, such activity of the government has hindered the growth of NT.”
Though Minister Rijal had assured workers unions, on July 22, that he would appoint managing director for full term within a week, nothing has been done in this direction so far, according to the statement.
Currently, Buddhi Prasad Acharya is working as the officiating managing director of NT
