KATHMANDU, July 27:

Nepal Telecom has started a new multi-service Point of Presence (PoP) in Hong Kong through its newly established NT Hong Kong PoP traffic exchange, according to the telecommunication service provider.

This is the third PoP operation after Singapore and Qatar, Nepal Telecom said, adding that establishing the Point of Presence will help the company expand its business. Major telecom service providers around the world establish PoP in Hong Kong to connect them with other service providers.

The multi-service Point of Presence facility links Nepal Telecom’s network to the global network, ensuring a better and faster connection for customers.

Nepal Telecom can provide International Private Lease Circuit (IPLC) to other telecom service providers and can use bandwidth for other commercial services as well, Nepal Telecom said.

Apart from better voice quality on calls to and from Nepal, Hong Kong PoP will also assist in meeting the business connectivity requirements for local and global customers in expert service companies and leading industries, including airlines, banking, financial markets, oil and gas, logistics management and construction businesses, according to the company.

In May 2012, Qatar Telecom and Nepal Telecom signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a multi-service Point of Presence to link the latter’s network to Qatar Telecom’s world-class voice and global internet network.

NT, over the years, has been upgrading its services.
