NOC to distribute gas based on number of cylinders

After collecting the details of cooking gas cylinders, the state-oil monopoly has started to distribute LP gas according to the number of cylinder gas companies own.
“Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has started to distribute gas quota based on number of cylinders the companies have,” NOC managing director Digambar Jha said, adding that the corporation is hopeful that the system will end some wrong trends in the gas business.
But still the corporation has many practical problems, Jha added. “The state oil monopoly has received several complaints that some gas companies have submitted fake number of cooking gas cylinder to get more quota compared to the actual number of cylinders they have,” Jha said, adding that the corporation has already started the probe, after receiving the complaints.
The NOC is currently tallying the submitted list with real bill and other proofs, according to him.
Meanwhile, the corporation has suspected that some gas companies have distributed their cylinders without serial number. “The companies are not allowed to distribute gas cylinders without serial number,” a NOC source said, adding that the corporation should bring such companies under scanner to ensure the safety of gas cylinder.
The corporation had in July directed gas companies to send details of their gas cylinders. According to the data received by the corporation, some 4.1 million gas cylinders are in the market. The NOC had initiated the process after mounting pressure.
Some 41 gas companies are in the operation at present supplying cooking gas. Normally, domestic market consumes around 17,000 tonnes of cooking gas every month.
