No amnesty to financial criminals

Nepal Rastra Bank governor Yubaraj Khatiwada on Friday reiterated that people involved in financial crimes would not be given amnesty.

Given some financial institutions witnessing financial crimes at the hands of their promoters, the governor said the central bank has been issuing necessary directives to ensure good governance in the banking system.

However, the situation has improved over the last year, the governor said at the inaugural function of the second general convention of Nepal National Employees Union’s NRB unit.

National Planning Commission Vice Chairman Dipendra Bahadur Kshetry said banks were struggling to find areas of investment despite having excess liquidity. “There are complaints that lending rates are still high,” he said.

Leaders of various trade unions talked about employees’ problems and asked the NRB management to fulfill their demands. The general convention will elect a new executive committee of the union.
