KATHMANDU:
NMB Bank has joined hands with the United Nations World Food Programme to distribute cash to over 1,600 beneficiaries of South Korea-funded Food for New Village Project in Doti district through its branchless banking service. NMB, which has successfully established branchless banking outlets in Dolakha, Thaiba, Lubhoo and Dhangadhi, will be extending the service in Ladagada and Pokhari village development committees of Doti district, a statement issued by the bank says. “The initiative aims at providing banking services to the unbanked population and providing communities access to financial services for the first time. NMB Bank will use innovative chip-based smart card technology to launch branchless banking operations in the two highly food insecure VDCs. The bank’s branchless banking agents will distribute cash benefits to identified beneficiaries through biometric enabled smart cards and point of sales devices.”
