New vehicles to watch out for at NADA fair

NADA Auto Show 2014 which is scheduled to kick off on Wednesday will be a mega event for the domestic automobile sector. Domestic dealers of automobiles will showcase and launch their latest products which they believe will be suitable for the Nepali market. From hatchbacks and compact sedans to crossovers, and from motorcycles to scooters, a slew of vehicles are lined up for launching to entice auto enthusiasts. Here are some of the vehicles that are planned to be rolled out.

Fiat Punto Evo

Starting price: Rs 2.4 million

Life Automobiles, authorised distributor of Fiat vehicles in Nepal, is all set to launch two new vehicles the Punto Evo premium hatchback and the Fiat New Linea sedan during the Auto Show. The Punto Evo will come in both diesel and petrol variants. The diesel version of the Punto Evo has a Multi-Jet engine while its petrol version comes with a Fully Integrated Robotized Engine (FIRE). The Multi-Jet engine gives improved performance, better fuel efficiency and a smoother drive, said the company. It added that the FIRE engine would be a revolutionary advancement in Fiat’s engine technology. The Punto Evo features Follow Me Headlamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, smart key window, superior ride handling and safety, revolutionary Blue and Me connectivity along with stylish new exteriors and swanky interiors. According to Keshav Aryal, marketing manager of Life Automobiles, the price of the Punto Evo starts from Rs 2.4 million in the domestic market.

Fiat New Linea

Price: Rs 3.09 million

Similarly, the New Linea sedan comes with various added features in its interior and exterior designs including a new grille, new wheels and slightly redesigned boot lid. Other features of the vehicle are anti-theft immobilizer with rolling code, antilock braking system, electronic brake force distribution, rear parking sensors, rain sensing wipers and climate control, among others.

Toyota Etios Cross

Price: Rs 4.14 million

United Traders Syndicate, authorised distributor of Toyota vehicles, will unveil the Etios Cross crossover during the expo. The vehicle is equipped with a 1,496 cc petrol engine which gives a mileage of 16.78 kmpl. According to Sandhya Shrestha, marketing executive of the company, the new Etios Cross has enough cabin space to comfortably accommodate five individuals and is perfect for long and adventurous drives. The vehicle comes with a 45-litre fuel tank and 251 litres of boot space along with 185/60 R15 tubeless tyres. Other features of the vehicle are electronic power steering with driver side auto down, three-spoke steering wheel, power windows, remote fuel lid and tailgate opener, keyless entry, diamond cut alloy wheels and front grille with grille guard.

Yamaha YZF R 6

Price: Yet to be announced

MAW Enterprises, authorised distributor of Yamaha motorcycles and scooters in Nepal, said it would unveil the YZF R6 sports bike at the NADA Auto Show. The R6 is powered by a liquid cooled, 4-stroke, 4-cylinder, 16-valve, DOHC engine which produces a maximum power of 127 bhp at 14,500 rpm and pumps out a peak torque of 65.8 Nm at 11,000 rpm. The bike has a 600 cc engine. “We believe that this high-tech machine will surely attract Nepali bike enthusiasts,” said Karun Shakya, marketing manager of MAW. “The bike will compete with the Honda CBR 600 RR, Suzuki GXR 600 and Ducati Monster 600 in the domestic market.” He added that the company would also launch the Yamaha R15 with new graphics during the expo.

Suzuki Gixxer 150

Price: Rs 225,900

VG Automobiles, authorised distributor of Suzuki two-wheelers in Nepal, will roll out the Suzuki Gixxer 150 bike during the expo. The bike comes with sporty and aerodynamic looks, sporty tail panel, mono suspension and muscular fuel tank, among other features. The bike is equipped with a 4-stroke, 1-cylinder, air-cooled SOHC engine. It has front disc brake and rear drum brake. According to Samit Singh, assistance marketing manager of VG, the bike costs Rs 225,900 in the domestic market.
