Nepse Wrap up (Review period 9th December to 13th December, 2012)

The beginning of the two trading days of this week was disappointing for Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) as the market came down by more than nine points. But later in the weeks, the benchmark index made surge up to 496.2 points narrowing its loss to 0.75 points compared to previous week’s closing.
The turnover of the Nepse also took a dive as the investors again diverted towards the Primary market i.e. Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Civil Bank Ltd. With the allotment of the primary share based on the pro-rata system, the investors’ assume to get sure shot higher return in the investment compared to the prevailing interest rate in the market . Such assumption has lured the most of the secondary market investors in the primary market resulting in the fall in the turnover this week.
The overall week’s turnover was of Rs 342,537,990 with average of Rs 68,507,598 which was Rs 34,549,703 or 34% lower than previous trading week’s average. The total scrips traded for the week were 113 with 34 gainers, 6 intact and 73 Losers with overall 1,029,014 share units trade via 4,840 transactions. The total market capitalization at the end of the review period was Rs 471,610.68 million which is lower by Rs 89.64 million compare to previous trading week’s closing.
Among the sector indices, Hydro and Insurance were the two sectors with huge surge i.e. of 11.81 and 19.81 points respectively. The increment in the price level of Butwal Power Co. Ltd. (BPCL) by Rs 45 mainly pushed the Hydro sector this week whereas the jump in the level of Life Insurance Co. Nepal (LICN) and Sagarmatha Insurance Co. Ltd (SIL) by Rs 130 and Rs 40 respectively contributed in Insurance’s growth.
Likewise, two of the rarest traded sectors i.e. Trading and Manufacturing also incline by 2.11 and 1.43 points respectively. Under Manufacturing, the scrip of only Bottlers Nepal (Terai) Ltd. was traded which added Rs 21, contributing in its sector climb.
While, Others sector despite the decline by more than 16 points in the initial two trading days, was able to bounce back to remain intact in its previous week closing of 775.4 points. Whereas Hotels sector had the highest decline this week as it came down by 16.07 points; the loss was mainly suffered because of the decrease in the level of Soaltee Hotel Ltd by Rs 10.
As for Banking, Finance and Development sub-indices, all plummeted by 0.13, 1.37 and 0.90 points respectively. In Banking this week, Himalayan Bank Ltd. (HBL) had the highest decline of Rs 73 because of the adjustment of the proposed 15% bonus share by Nepse. Similarly, scrips like Grand Bank Ltd. (GRAND), Everest Bank Ltd (EBL) and Bank of Kathmandu (BOK) were the other scrips which dropped by more than Rs 10.
Among other sub-indices, Sensitive index dropped by 0.46 or 0.36% to settle at 129.11 levels while Float index also declined by 0.21 or 0.60% points to settle at 34.98 levels .
In overall week transaction, Subhechha Bikas Bank Limited (SUBBL), closed at Rs 142, was the Top Gainer with Rs 26 or 22.41%. On the other side, Janaki Finance Ltd. (JFL), closed at Rs 266, was the Top Loser with Rs 135 or 33.67%; the drop in the scrip was mainly because of the price amend by the Nepse to adjust the 50% bonus share declared by the company.
In case of highest transaction, Global IME Bank Limited (Global IME), closed at 395, had the highest transaction with 328 times. Whereas in the category of highest share traded Nepal Bangladesh Bank Ltd. (NBBL), closed at Rs 249, topped with 115,020 units. In terms of turnover, Nepal Investment Bank Ltd. (NIB), closed at Rs 860, had the highest turnover with 45,144 units worth Rs. 37,885,395 via 226 transactions.
