Nepse Wrap up (Review period 7th to 11th April, 2013)

The last trading week of B.S. 2069 ended with the joyful note for the investors as the benchmark index gained 10.13 points to settle at 523.41 levels. With the easing of the quarter end and the budget announcement from the government, the local bourse was able to get a boost in this week. In overall year performance also the Nepse has made an astounding improvement as the local bourse has made a surge of 203.47 or 63.60% points in the year 2069 B.S.
The start of Mutual fund, Margin Lending and news of the implementation of CDS and political consensus along with the deteriorating real estate business, commodity market and low interest rate in the market all contributed in shifting the three year long bearish market into the bullish. In run of one year, the market made the high of 555.93 levels on 17th February, 2013 whereas the lowest was the starting level of this year i.e. 319.94 levels on 12th April, 2012. All in all, the secondary market of Nepal has once again been able to attract the investor in its charm.
As for the performance of Sub –indices this week, only Finance and Trading made a plunge of 0.69 and 0.84 points respectively. Whereas Insurance sector made a hefty gain of 31.86 points following the huge surge in Nepal Life Insurance Co. Ltd. (NLIC) by Rs 210. Likewise, Hydro soar by 14.46 points and Hotels gained 10.58 points.
In case of remaining two of the Banking and Financial Institutions sub-indices, Banking jumped 11.16 points and Development made growth of 2.48 points. Likewise, incline in the level of Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited (NTC) by Rs 14 uplifted the Other sector up by 16.45 points. While the manufacturing sector remained intact at 840.23 levels.
Overall there were only 111 scrips traded among which 64 scrips increased 10 remained intact and 37 scrips decreased. The highest gainer among the scrips traded this week was Surya Life Insurance Company Limited (SLICL), closed at Rs 176, with Rs 22 or 14.29% gain. Whereas, Grand Bank Limited Promoter Share (GRANDP), closed at Rs 109, was the highest loser with Rs 22 or 16.79% loss. Among the ordinary scrips trading above par, Lumbini General Insurance (LGIL), closed at Rs 112, was the worst performer with Rs 12 or 9.67% loss.
In terms of highest transaction, Civil Bank Ltd (CBL), closed at Rs 161, topped with 699 transactions whereas Siddhartha Investment Growth Scheme-1 (SIGS1), closed at Rs 11.60, had the highest share traded tallying 157,557 units. In case of highest turnover, Bank of Kathmandu (BOK), closed at Rs 675, topped with 25,756,505 units worth Rs 38,876 via 144 transactions; in which Broker no 32 (Premier Securities Company Limited) was the most active Broker with 20.71% stand alone dealing of BOK, tallying 8,112 units worth Rs 5,334,154 via 23 transactions which includes one matching transactions of 5,115 units worth Rs 3,350,325.
The week’s turnover was about Rs 302.45 million with average of Rs 75.61 million. Overall 1,342,215 units of shares were traded via 4,503 transactions. The total market capitalization at the end of the review period was Rs 508,327.77 million which is higher by Rs 4031.97 million compare to previous trading week’s closing.
