Nepse Wrap up (Review period 7th October to 11th October, 2012)

The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) started this week with a remarkable climb as on the opening day the index made a climb of 4.37 points to 427.9 levels. On the second day, the market index tried to cross the 429 level but failed and started to make a correction from that level. Till the end of the week, the market reached the lowest of the 423.5 level but was able to sustain above the previous week closing of 423.53 levels. In overall, the local bourse added 0.90 or 0.21 % point  to close at 424.43 levels.

The ups and downs in the scrip of Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited (NTC) and Chilime Hydro Power Co. (CHCL) had very much impact on the movement of Nepse this week. The scrip of NTC was traded between the range of Rs 640 to Rs 690 whereas CHCL traded between the range of Rs  950 to Rs 1,012. Despite the hefty gain in the first day of the trade, both the scrip till the end of the week came down by Rs 10 and Rs 17 to close at Rs 650 and Rs 953 respectively. The decline in both the scrips had an adverse effect on their respective sectors as Hydro came down by 9.65 and Others dropped by 11.75 points.

Likewise, Development and Manufacturing also declined than the previous week’s level. The Development sector came down by 0.40 points whereas Manufacturing plummeted by 7.79 points.  The decrease in the scrip of Muktinath Bikas Bank Ltd.(MNBBL), Garima Bikas Bank Limited(GBBL), Nerude Laghubita Bikas Bank Limited (NLBBL), Diprox Development Bank (DDBL), Nirdhan Utthan Bank Ltd.(NUBL), Triveni Bikas Bank Limited (TBBL) and Kanchan Development Bank Ltd. (KAN) mainly pulled the Development sector down.

As for Banking and Financial Institutions sub-indices, Banking gained 4.22 points and Finance jumped by 2.34 points. In Banking, the surge in the price of Nepal SBI Bank Limited (NSBI), Standard Chartered Bank Ltd. (SCB), Bank of Kathmandu (BOK), Janata Bank Nepal Ltd. (JBNL) and Everest Bank Ltd (EBL) mainly pulled the sector in green pasture. Whereas in Finance, the heavy increase in the scrip of Citizen Investment Trust (CIT) by Rs 76 mainly uplifted the sector.

Similarly, Insurance and Hotels have also surged by 3.26 and 8.70 points respectively.  In Hotels, the rise in Soaltee Hotel Ltd. (SHL) by Rs 9 mainly uplifted the sector whereas in Insurance, double digit growth in most of shares traded this week helped the sector to add hefty points.

Among other sub-indices, Sensitive index added 2  or 1.87% to settle at 109.03 levels while Float index also inclined by 0.22 or 0.73% points to settle at 30.33 levels .

In overall week transaction, Sahayogi Vikas Bank (SBBLJ), closed at Rs 240, was the Top Gainer with Rs 51 or 26.98%. On the other side, Muktinath Bikas Bank Ltd. (MNBBL), closed at Rs 211, was the Top Loser with Rs 112 or 34.67% (due to book closure of 50% dividend from the profit of fiscal year 2068/69).

In case of highest transaction, Guras Life Insurance Co. Ltd. (GLICL), closed at Rs 165, had the highest transaction with 407 times. Whereas in the category of highest share traded and turnover Machhachapuchhre Bank Limited Promotor Share (MBLPO), closed at Rs 100, topped with 1,093,616 units worth Rs 109,361,600. T

The highest share traded among the general shares was of KIST Bank Limited  (KIST), closed at Rs 114, with 106,175 units. Likewise in case of turnover, Everest Bank Ltd (EBL), closed at Rs 1129, had the highest turnover with 30,022 units worth Rs 33,807,525; in which Broker No 10 (Pragyan Securities Pvt. Limited) was the most active broker with 39.54% stand alone dealing of EBL, totaling 11,869 units worth Rs 13,366,605 via 53 transactions which includes 2 matching transactions of  1,000 units worth Rs 1,127,000.

Total scrips traded for the week were 136 with 67 gainers, 19 intact and 50 Losers .Overall week’s turnover was about Rs 433,508,390 which is comparatively Rs 131,102,759 or 43.35% higher than the prior week. The increase in turnover was mainly due to the bulk volume trade of MBLPO on the last trading day. Apart from the turnover of  MBLPO, other company's turnover has been going down because of the nearing festival holidays. Overall 2,360,571 units of shares were traded via 6,522 transactions. The total market capitalization at the end of the review period was Rs 401,914.75 million which is lower by Rs 855.85 million compare to previous week’s closing.
