Nepse Wrap up (Review period 3rd March, 2013 to 7th March, 2013)

The positive sentiment of the investors towards the market, which was seen a few weeks back, because of the political consensus to form a Chief Justice led government seems to be fading away with time. As the delay in the implementation part and postponed of hearing by the Supreme Court on the petition filed against the Chief Justice has again created a sense of pessimism in the secondary market of Nepal.
In the five days of trading this week, for beginning two days the market index made a meager fall of 0.89 and 0.36 points. However, on the third day the local bourse made a plunge of 2.74 points then followed with 2.49 points climb on the following day. But at the end of the week, the market once again plummeted by 1.68 points to close at 539.26 levels. In overall, the benchmark index settled 3.18 points below than the preceding week’s closing.
Despite the low range movement and downfall in the Nepse level this week, the positive outcome was the turnover. For the entire five days, the turnover of the market was above Rs 100 million marks. The average turnover for this week was Rs 134.54 million which is higher by Rs 18.15 million or 15.59% than the preceding week. Likewise, the numbers of shares traded also surged up this week as it stood around 2.38 million which were carried out by the 7,793 transactions.
With the listing and trading of the Civil Bank Limited (CBL) and Civic Development Ltd. (CIVIC) from this week onwards, the market capitalization of the market surged by Rs 333.95 million than prior week’s level to settle at Rs 523,091.63 million this week.
Among the sub-indices, Insurance sector plummeted by the most points as it dropped by 13.22 points following the loss in the scrips of National Life Insu. Co. Ltd. (NLICL), Nepal Life Insurance Co. Ltd. (NLIC), Shikhar Insurance Co. Ltd. (SICL) and Nepal Insurance Co. Ltd. (NICL) by Rs 45, Rs 31, Rs 15 and Rs 10 respectively. Likewise, Hydro also plunged by 6.90 points which was mainly complemented by the loss of Butwal Power Co. Ltd. (BPCL) of Rs 30.
Similarly, Manufacturing and Trading also descent by 7.78 and 8.45 points respectively following the drop in the level of Uniliver Nepal Limited (UNL) and Bishal Bazaar Co. Ltd. (BBC) by Rs 598 and Rs 65 respectively. Also, Others and Banking downfall by 5.87 and 3.03 points respectively. In Banking this week, Nabil Bank Ltd (Nabil), closed at Rs 1925, outshine the Standard Chartered Bank (SCB), closed at Rs 1909, to take the position of highest price scrip for the first time in the Banking sector and third highest in the overall listed companies in NEPSE.
While, Hotels, Development and Finance were the only sectors to make gains of 6.50, 2.80 and 1.34 points respectively. In Hotels, the scrip of Soaltee Hotel Ltd. (SHL) made the highest gain of Rs 4 whereas in Development, Vibor Bikas Bank Limited (VBBL) and Ace Development Bank Limited (ACDBL) were able to incline by double digits. The increment in the VBBL, closed at Rs 98, by Rs 18 or 22.5% was the highest among the traded scrips this week.
Overall there were only 110 scrips traded among which 51 scrips increased 6 remained intact and 53 scrips decreased. The highest gainer among the scrips trading above par this week was, Siddhartha Insurance Limited (SIL), closed at Rs 221, with Rs 18 or 8.86% gain; the surge was mainly because of the company’s proposal of 32% bonus share and 90% (10:9) right shares issuance to its shareholders after issuance of bonus share. Whereas, Kakre Bihar Bikash Bank Ltd. (KKBL), closed at Rs 127, was the highest loser with Rs 17 or 11.80%.
In terms of highest share trade and transaction, Civil Bank Ltd (CBL), closed at Rs 168, topped with 462,773 units via 1541 transactions. In case of turnover, Nepal Bangladesh Bank Ltd. (NBB), closed at Rs 322, still topped the chart with 385,777 units worth Rs 134,000,000 via 756 transactions; in which Broker no 32 (Premier Securities Company Limited) was the most active Broker with 15.21% stand alone dealing of NBB, tallying 58,850 units worth Rs 20,391,555 via 65 transactions which includes 10 matching transactions totaling 6,150 units worth Rs 2,135,730.
