Sharesansar, 4th January:

The New Year Eve and New Year both were unfruitful for Nepal Stock Exchange as the market index suffered by more than 10 point loss in these two days. After reaching three years high in the previous week, the investors seem to have booked their profit which resulted in correction in these days. Apart from it, as the 2nd quarter closing is coming near, the investors who have taken loan tends to divert to their obligation of paying interest to the financial institutions at this time which tends to decrease the participation in the market. Overall, the gain in the last two days of the trade helped to narrow the market index loss to 7.55 points; the local bourse at the end of the week closed at 533.55 levels.

Despite the decrease in the level of the market index, the average turnover this week also still remained over the Rs 100 million mark. The daily average turnover stood around Rs 109 million; though compared to previous week’s average it is lower by Rs 59 million, the sustainability of turnover during this period of time over Rs 100 million is still a good sign of a healthy secondary market. The overall turnover for the week tallied near to Rs 438 million and altogether 1,303,451 units of share were traded through 5,391 transactions. The market capitalization at the end of the review period stood around Rs 514,058.5 million which compared to previous week is Rs 7230.29 million lower.

Among the sector indices, Insurance and Finance were only the two sectors which were better off than the prior week. Insurance added 6.19 points in its tally this week whereas Finance rose by 5.40 points. The incline in Finance came with the climb in the price level of Citizen Investment Trust (CIT), Janaki Finance Ltd. (JFL), ICFC Finance Limited (ICFC), Multipurpose Finance Co. Ltd. (MPFL) and International Leasing And Fin. Co. (ILFC).

Whereas, the drop in the level of Nepal Investment Bank Ltd. (NIB), Standard Chartered Bank Ltd (SCB), Nepal SBI Bank Limited (NSBI), Himalayan Bank Ltd. (HBL), Everest Bank Ltd (EBL) , Prime Commercial Bank Limited (PRIME) by more than Rs 20 mainly pushed the Banking sector down by 10.94 points. Among the 27 scrips traded under Banking, Nepal Bank Limited (NBL), Nepal Bangladesh Bank Ltd. (NBB) and NABIL Bank Limited Promotor Share (NBAILP) were only the scrips that improved than the previous week.

Likewise, plummet in the price of Chilime Hydro power Co. (CHCL) by Rs 11 dragged the Hydro sector by 7.95 points. Similarly, Development descended by 5.60 points; the decrease in the Diprox Development Bank (DDBL), Nilgiri Bikas Bank Limited  (NBBL), Ace Development Bank Limited (ACEDBL), Swabalamwan Bikash Bank (SWBBL), Clean Energy Development Bank Limited (CDBL), Sahayogi Vikas Bank (SBBLJ) by more than Rs 10 mainly contributed to the Development’s sector downfall this week.

While, Hotels and Others also both dropped by 1.13 and 4.70 points respectively. In Hotels, Oriental Hotel Ltd. (OHL) and Taragaon Regency Hotel (TRH) came down by Rs 1 and Rs 2 respectively. Whereas in Others, Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited (NTC) declined by Rs 3.

Among other sub-indices, Sensitive index decreased by 2.57 or 1.80% to settle at 140.17 levels while Float index also dropped by 0.51 or 1.39% points to settle at 36.28 levels.

In overall week transaction, Nepal Bank Limited (NBL), closed at Rs 1035, was the Top Gainer with Rs 326 or 45.98%. On the other side, Life Insurance Co. Nepal (LICN), closed at Rs 958, was the Top Loser with Rs 452 or 32.06%. The main reason for such a huge drop in this scrip was mainly because of the price adjustment by Nepse to adjust the 62% bonus share declared by the company.

As for the highest share traded company, Ace Development Bank Limited (ACEDBL), closed at Rs 105, topped with 162,108 units. In case of highest transaction and turnover, Bank of Kathmandu (BOK), closed at 717, topped with 455 transactions totaling 74,016 units worth Rs 52,740,774; in which Broker No 6 (Agrawal Securities Pvt. Limited) was the active broker with 24.62% stand alone dealing of BOK, tallying 18,211 units worth Rs 12,987,036 via 91 transactions which includes 19 matching transactions totaling 7,685 units worth Rs 5,498,495.
