Nepse Wrap up (Review period 30th September to 4th October, 2012)

With the astonishing climb in the Hydro and Other sector, Nepal Stock Exchange made a surge of 7.83 or 1.88% points. The week started with a decline in the secondary market then continued to make meager improvement in the second and third day. From the fourth day onwards the progress in the scrip of Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited (NTC) and Chilime Hydro Power Co. (CHCL) sustained and uplifted the local bourse up to the level of 423.53 till the end of the week.


As the NTC hasn’t proposed its dividend, the investors are expecting high return from this company as the company had made a hefty net profit of Rs 13,708.4 million in the last fiscal year 2068/69. So the investors perceive NTC as one of the lucrative investment opportunity, which has helped the scrip to propel by Rs 50 this week to close at Rs 660. The rise in the price of NTC also boosted up the Other sector by huge points of 63.43 or 8.91%.


The incline in NTC scrip also helped to pull up the CHCL, as investors also perceive it as one of the lucrative scrip in the market. Though the CHCL had made its book closure for its upcoming AGM scheduled to be held on 29th Ashwin, 2069; the companies past track record, investment diversification and target to produce 500 MW has made it one of the stock to invest for long term period such as pension plan for retirement life. After the adjustment price of Rs 881 in the previous week, the scrip has gained Rs 89 to close at Rs 970. The climb in CHCL along with Butwal Power Co. Ltd. by Rs 25 helped to uplift the Hydro sector by 72.12 or 8.61% points. Similarly, another sector that increased this week was Insurance by 24.78 or 3.65% points than the previous week closing. Under Insurance, the trading of Everest Insurance Co. (EIC) resumed after it was halted by Nepse on 12th September, as the company decided to stop providing its services to the general public. The scrip traded between the range of Rs 331 to Rs 364 and came to close at week’s high.


As for three of the Banking and Financial Institutions indices i.e. Banking , Development  and Finance all dropped by 4.64 or 1.30%, 6.54 or 2.64% and 2.38 or 0.92% points respectively. In Banking, the book closure of Nabil Bank Limited (NBL) dragged its price by Rs 275 to close at Rs 1125 after price adjustment by Nepse. Along with it, Nepal SBI Bank Limited (NSBI), Laxmi Bank Limited (LBL), Nepal Investment Bank Ltd. (NIBL), Siddhartha Bank Limited (SBL), KIST Bank Limited (KIST) and Sunrise Bank Limited (SBL) also came down than previous week closing.

Whereas in Development, the fall in Nerude Laghubita Bikas Bank Limited (NLBBL), Shangrila Development Bank Ltd. (SADBL), Sewa Bikas Bank Limited (SEWA), Swabalamwan Bikash Bank (SWBBL) and Excel Development Bank Ltd. (EDBL) by Rs 46, Rs 26, Rs24, Rs21 and Rs 11 respectively mainly caused in sector decline. Likewise in Finance, the heavy drop in Citizen Investment Trust (CIT) by Rs 66 and in Yeti Finance Limited (YFL) by Rs 20 mainly pushed the sector down. As for Hotels, it came down by the highest points of 25.05 or 4.35%.


Among other sub-indices, Sensitive index added 0.38 or 0.36% to settle at 107.03 level while Float index also plummeted by 0.67 or 2.18% points to settle at 30.11 levels .


In overall week transaction, Alliance Insurance Company Limited (AIC), closed at Rs 146, was the Top Gainer with Rs 34 or 30.35%. On the other side, Shangrila Development Bank Ltd. (SADBL), closed at Rs 111, was the Top Loser with Rs 26 or 18.98%.


In case of highest transaction, Guras Life Insurance Co. Ltd. (GLICL), closed at 170, had the highest transaction with 299 times. Whereas in the category of highest share traded Nepal Bangladesh Bank Ltd. (NBBL), closed at Rs 159, topped with 86,747 units.


In terms of turnover, Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited (NTC), closed at Rs 660, had the highest turnover with 62,750 units worth Rs. 39,437,520; in which Broker No 33 (Dachinkali Investment Securities Pvt.Ltd ) was a most active broker with 23.49% stand alone dealing of NTC, totaling 14,490 units worth Rs 9262,860 via 24 transactions which includes 7 matching transactions of 8,470 units worth Rs 5,474,200.

Total scrips traded for the week were 122 with 54 gainers, 21 intact and 47 Losers .Overall week’s turnover was of Rs 302,405,631 which is comparatively Rs 133,238,261 or 44.05% lower than the prior week. Overall 1,062,756 units of shares were traded via 6,254 transactions. The total market capitalization at the end of the review period was Rs 401,058.9 million which is higher by Rs 7,672 million compare to previous week’s closing.
